Preventive Conservation and Agents of Deterioration
The Canadian Conservation Institute provides guidelines and information on general care for heritage collections based on the principles of preventive conservation and risk management.
- Environmental Guidelines for Museums: A general introduction for all museum professionals to the current approach to controlling ambient relative humidity and temperature in museums.
- Mould Outbreak - An immediate response: A general course of action to deal with a mould infestation in a heritage collection.
- Six Steps to Safe Shipment: Online resource to assist in safe shipping of heritage objects.
- Corner Pads for Double Case Packages: Online resource to assist in safe packing of heritage objects for transport.
Agents of Deterioration
The agents of deterioration identify 10 primary threats specific to heritage environments and encourage their prevention at the collections level first, by avoiding, blocking and detecting possible damage, and then by responding and treating damage. This integrated approach to conservation has also led to developments in risk assessment.
